The wee yellow road ends at Fascadale, where you can park and explore the small beach of follow the coastal footpath to Port Eigin-aig and onwards to the desserted village of Glendrian in the heart of the Ardnamurchan volcano. The walk passes across moorland and is a little indistinct in places and can be pretty boggy too. One for the more adventorous explorer though with good opportunities for spotting red deer, golden and white-tailed eagles.
Ockle, Swordle and The North Coast
The North Coast of Ardnamurchan offers breathtaking scenery, rocky cliffs, sandy bays, wildlife galore and archaeological sites including the site of a Viking boat burial discovered in 2011 at Swordle. Take the road north from the B8007, some three miles before Kilchoan, signed towards Kilmory, Ockle and Fascadale and head into the wilds of North Ardnamurchan. Enjoy a walk on the beaches at Kilmory and Swordle, wander west from Fascadale towards Glendrian or venture east from Ockle towards The Singing Sands. Remember your binoculars to scan for eagles in this remote and rugged land.
There is a wee parking spot at the end of the road to Fascadale from where you can walk across the hills and moors towards the deserted village of Glendrian. The walk can be a wee bit boggy, so best done during a dry spell; remember to take your best waterproof boots, map and compass for this walk. The coastline between Fascadale and Swordle is peppered with wonderful sandy beaches - most easily accessed from the village of Kilmory or Swordle.
Further east, past Ockle, you can head out on a stunning walk to The Single Sands, along coastal cliffs, hills and moorland to Camus an Lighe where, if you are lucky, the sands may sing for you.

Kilmory beach is located by the small crofting township of Kilmory on the north coast of West Ardnamurchan. Kilmory beach is a lovely white sandy beach punctuated with volcanic outcrops. The beach is within a sheltered cove flanked by rocky promontories, with a small rocky islet (Ardtoe Island) on the east side of the bay. The beach affords some fine views of the Small Isles.

Swordle Bay is a stunning bay on the northern shores of Ardnamurchan, located between the coastal headlands of Garbh Rubha and Ockle Point. There are some stunning views from the bay to the Small Isles, as well as some interesting geological formations and local archaeology.

There is a small parking area at the end of the road at Ockle. From here you can explore some nearby archeological sites or take off on the coastal footpath towards The Singing Sands at Gortenfern. The walk passes through heathland with some stunning coastal and hill views, with particularly fine views to the Small Isles, Mull and Skye and is a stunning walk across a wild rugged terrain.
